Top Gun PSN

This summer Top Gun will land onto the PSN, PC and Mac. Exclusive content is promised for the PSN version. Top Gun will be developed by the fine folks at DoubleSix games. Check out the press release below.

“Maverick, Goose, Iceman and Viper take to the sky again in Top Gun for PlayStation®Network for the PlayStation®3 (PS3™) computer entertainment system, Mac and PC. Paramount Digital Entertainment today announced Top Gun video game, a free-flying air combat shooter based on the adrenaline-packed film. In Top Gun, players will enroll in the Top Gun Academy as Maverick with their Radio Information Officer Goose to go up against the best for Top Gun honors. Following graduation, players will fly into the danger zone with fellow US Navy pilots over the Indian Ocean, where they will shoot down enemy fighter jets, defend and attack bases and engage in large-scale dogfight battles. Top Gun also features five multiplayer modes, allowing up to sixteen players to go up against the best and battle it out online. Currently in development by doublesix, Top Gun will be available this summer.

For Top Gun, Paramount Digital Entertainment has tapped the film’s screenwriter, Jack Epps, Jr., to expand beyond the film’s plot and create all-new story elements and dialogue with the film’s iconic characters, including Goose, Iceman, Jester, Viper, Merlin, Slider, Wolfman and more.

“With Jack Epps, Jr. on board, we’re excited to deliver a new Top Gun arcade experience that holds true to the popular film,” said John Kavanagh, senior vice president of video games, Paramount Digital Entertainment. “The Top Gun development team did a great job taking the best elements of the film – the characters, action, plot and attitude – and expanding beyond them by creating new dialogue, more missions and multiplayer modes. We’re confident players will have a great time doing inverts, buzzing the tower and getting into dogfight battles with film’s characters and their friends online.”

“Our continued collaboration with Paramount Digital Entertainment to bring Top Gun to PlayStation Network adds to our overall value message and furthers our industry leading line-up of diverse and exclusive PS3 content,” said Rob Dyer, senior vice president of publisher relations, Sony Computer Entertainment America. “Providing a deep, yet accessible gameplay experience, Top Gun will appeal to both casual and hardcore PlayStation fans when it comes to PlayStation Network this summer.”

It takes a lot more than just fancy flying - Top Gun features seven gameplay modes, two single player and five multiplayer. In Campaign Mode, as Maverick, solo players will first learn the ropes at the academy and then progress to active duty, teaming up with seasoned flyers to take down enemy planes over the Indian Ocean. But don’t let your ego write checks that your body can’t cash. In Horde Mode, players must show off their flying prowess as they defeat endless waves of increasingly challenging enemies. In online multiplayer, players will enlist in the US Navy or join their comrades to go head-to-head with up to 15 other live opponents in five different modes: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Top Gun, Bombing Run and Capture the Flag.

Players will fly into the danger zone in various unlockable planes. Each jet has unique strengths and abilities, with varying levels of speed, destruction, agility and durability. “

After loads of speculation from gaming websites we can finally confirm the contents of the upcoming DLC for Metro 2033.

The Ranger Pack adds new weapons, new achievements and the deadly Ranger Mode game rules. In standard Ranger Mode, ammo is dramatically reduced and all weapons cause more damage. Your foes are deadlier than ever but so are you! Ranger Hardcore adds an additional challenge as the HUD is totally removed, creating the most immersive Metro 2033 experience yet. Rise to the challenge with two new weapons the Heavy Automatic Shotgun, and the Volt Driver, Miller’s signature gun. New achievements and 250 Gamerscore points are up for grabs.

The Ranger Pack will be released on both Xbox LIVE Marketplace and Steam in the very near future, with pricing to be confirmed closer to release.

Critter Crunch Review

Critter Crunch is a cute puzzle game from the Capybara games exclusive to the PSN. The game is one of the unsung heroes recently of the PSN store. Many users have tried it and all of which have loved it. The game screams cute, from the characters to the enemies the character design is superb.

Puzzles/levels are easy at first but like all games as you continue through the story (yes there is a story) the game continues to challenge you and adds new objects to throw in your path. The game may feel short at first glance but when the player gets deep into the game they will realize there is much to be had in this simple puzzle game. Real goal is to ultimately unlock every feature of the game by progressing.

Each area has three main story levels, as you go on they will tend to have three story levels, one puzzle level and one challenge level. You only have to complete any three levels on that given area before the next area is unlocked. The fun and challenge comes when you’re trying to do them all before moving onto the next area. There are also bonus areas to unlock, some consist of all puzzle areas.

The main map keeps track of all your points as well as your overall global rank. If you’re connected to the PSN your stats will need to load and upload after every map, which is no problem at all. Also while connected you can challenge your friend in a fun versus mode of Critter Crunch where you battle and add critters to each others board to see who can survive the longest. The visuals for the game are very crisp and the tunes to the game are noticeably catchy. Everything adds to the games great fun atmosphere of being something for the whole family. In the age of guns and kill-streaks this game stands out, and replaces it with tounge and combos.

Solar review

Indie games are starting to take off soon to the point they will not be known as Indie Games anymore. Maybe a new name, ‘small development games’ either way, they are here to stay. One of those Indie games is Solar for the Xbox 360 via the XBLA Indie Games. Does it live up to the rest of the Indie game standard set by the likes of Dishwasher Samurai and others? Well, yes it does, but it does it in its own unique way.

When you think sandbox you think GTAIV, Saints Row and open world games. Well Solar gives you an open Universe Game for the first time. You start out during the tutorial, which might I add is very informative. You goal in sandbox mode is to get addicting to trying to get 9 planets to orbit your Sun and start your own group of planets and after enough time and debris collection you will gain life on your planets and they will start shooting down other planets that try to endanger yours. It’s really a fun concept. You will lose hours trying to get all 9 planets revolving around your Sun as its just as easy to lose them as it is to gain. Once you had enough of the Sandbox mode why not try the Challenges. There are 18 challenges in total which give you various objectives ranging from Destroying X amount of asteroids to ‘Grow A planet until it becomes a star’. Each keeps record of your best time completed and the Master Time, which is the time to beat.

The game has its own set of unlockables ranging from game modes to allowing you to create your own objects for the game. You will unlock new things beginning with 20% completion on up to 100%. There are 6 game modes to unlock in all which add a great amount of time to this seemingly short game. All in all the game offers an amazing value for such a great amount of gameplay. Of course who can argue with a game that was nominated for Xbox Live Indie Game Of The Year?

From Playstation.blog

Jermey Dunham Sr. Community Manager @ Zipper Interactive:

“I wanted to drop in and deliver some truly exciting news – on behalf of everyone here at Zipper Interactive, I’m pleased to announce that SOCOM 4 is indeed in development and is slated for release exclusively on PlayStation 3 this fall.”

Of course, as with any new announcement, what you really want to know are the details: Who’s in your squad? Where have they been deployed? What kind of threat are they up against? Though we’ll be revealing the answers to all these questions and plenty more throughout 2010, we don’t want to leave you completely in the dark, so what we will tell you is that a militant revolutionary has unexpectedly seized control in an important South Asian country. As the Ops Com, your mission is to command an elite five-man squad charged with stopping his aggressive agenda before it’s too late. In only six days, you must lead your team through a hostile jungle and urban environments against an army of well-armed rebel insurgents that completely outnumber you.

If that setup doesn’t whet your appetite enough, you should also be pleased to know that in addition to the SOCOM’s single-player operation, players will also be able to enjoy a 32-person multiplayer mode that boasts more Special Forces units than ever before!

Oh, and before we let you go, we wanted to send a message to our SOCOM and MAG fans all over the world. First, if you play MAG and wonder what this means for the game’s future, wonder no more – we’re still fully committed to supporting MAG for a long, long time and the addition of another game in our lineup doesn’t change that. Second, it’s been great to hear from SOCOM fanatics located in every corner of the globe as we led into today’s announcement. We’re extremely excited to be attached to this beloved franchise again and knowing that so many people wanted us to return to something that already meant so much to us has been both inspiring and touching – so thank you to all of you who wanted it to happen! We look forward to living up to your expectations.”

The trailer will debut tonight at 12:30 EST on Gametrailers TV.

Be sure to discuss it on our forums and in the comments below!
