Games Master Set for TV return

Some people may remember the many awful games related television programming that seemed to come and go from TV channels faster than a cheetah on speed, such as Game Guru, Gamezville and VideoGaiden to name a few. One highlight however was GamesMaster, running from 1991 to 1998 on Channel 4 its gamings longest running television programme and also the most popular having also spawned a long running and still hugely popular magazine. Along with a new image re-hash to re-shape the magazine to more modern gaming standards, the publisher has also considered rebirthing the television franchise; could we finally have a decent television programme that takes games seriously back on air again?

  4. the show wasn’t brilliant but for the time it fitted the model of games reasonably well as people did see them as gimmicky but it did have like proper gamers involvement etc etc, so its a sign for good if it does come back; instantly popular already and no doubt will take an active role in listening to gamers and not being so silly and ‘futuristic’ as the attitude towards gaming has changed so much. I mean look at FFXIII its casual’ed itself up so much but if you want to its still got the hardcore element in there for fans =]

  5. That’s true enough. Consoles at the time were like the Mega Drive etc. Hardly the matured devices we have these days.
I’ll keep an eye on it at least.

  6. Whether it’s good or not, the fact that gaming would be on TV would be the start and hopefully cause other channels to follow their lead. With gaming becoming a more mainstream hobby, hopefully we can see a few dedicated shows coming our way.

  8. only worry is they dont go too casual… i mean, i don’t fancy watching a program where nintendo has 20 minutes of showtime and then sony and microsoft get to fight over the last 10 minutes like a meaty rag. saying that, if they actually got steve ballmer and Jack Tretton

  9. I would hope they’d give equal shares of the program to each format or maybe make a one format only show would be cool too =D

They’d all be competing and might produce some cool results =P
