Cavemen Vs. Aliens Review
Ok, I don’t know about you, but since the indie games have been introduced onto XBOX Live, how many half decent indie games have you played? 1,2 maybe 3? Well I had not even played 1 indie game worth it’s cash until Cavemen vs Aliens. If you hate indie games, at least hear me out as this game has changed my impression of them altogether, and shown me that in a lot of dirt you can find a gem.
At first it seems like a very basic version of Dawn of War 1, you can either kill your enemy or control all the areas, but after the first 2 missions you find out that this game is so much deeper. The missions give only a limited amount of men that carry a limited amount of ammo, but you can supply them with medical supplies and ammo, and they also heal when they are at your starting base. Then a few missions after that you are given 30 cavemen and a hero unit, to split between 3 missions, and putting 10 cavemen at each mission just doesn’t work.
The AI in this game is very good, it really provides a challenge and unless you think tactically, the enemy will swarm you. The sound in this game is very basic though, and seem like SNES sound bites, but the game is only 50 MB big. Graphically the game isn’t too bad compared to games like Castle Crashers or such, and the colourful themes fit in great, but the game play is really what shines through.
On a final note what I can say is, if you haven’t tried an indie game yet, then try this one. This game has had a lot of thought and has been created on that basis. This game is worth every penny and will last you longer than any similar Arcade game.

Indie games always strike a warm place in my heart. Seeing other peoples creativity getting a proper showcase is a brilliant thing, and I’ll definitely keep my eyes out for this one.
Good review!

Hi Ben
Thanks for the positive review
It’s nice to know that our hard-work was appreciated
It’s very difficult to get noticed on XBLIG – so not sure if we’d go that route again. We’ve considered polishing it further and going for a PC (mouse controlled) version of it. Although it was designed around the 360 controller.
It’s great to have some positive feedback from the community though.
Made our day – so thanks!
John
