Battlefield:Bad Company 2 Review

Back in 2008 DICE and EA made a Battlefield game unlike any other, because this Battlefield was called Bad Company and uses the first real-time destruction during game play. Now a few years later they come back to improve on the engine and with the release of Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Does this game really “defining online warfare” or will it make the same mistakes as Battlefield: Bad Company?

Story that is now linear

The story for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 returns the same group of trouble making men from the first Bad Company. You will be playing as Preston Marlowe again, and helping him are his fellow comrades Sweetwater, Haggard, and Redford. When you start of the game, it will take you back to October, 1944 when a group of US soldiers have to hunt down a Japanese scientist’s and escape with him before they all die. A project called “Project AURORA” will be the undoing of the US soldier you take control of. Now, with the present day Marlowe and gang have to stop “Project AURORA” before the Russian use it on the US and the world. Basically, the story will have you and bad company going to all these different places from South America to the Middle East, and Texas too.  The story also follows a linear pattern then Battlefield: Bad Company open- world, but overall the linear pattern is really a big improvement and you don’t really get side-tracked as much and every area in the game is pretty much use. Battlefield also returns the collectibles, and once you unlock that collectible weapon is will become a part of your inventory in the ammo crates at different sections of the story. Pretty much, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will take you about 8 to 10 hours to complete, and after you complete the story there is not much replay value from it, unless you want the bad company gang making funny and bad jokes about Modern Warfare 2 than be my guest.

Defining Online Warfare!

Battlefield Bad Company 2 multiplayer is a mix bag because it does have issues, but has pretty much a lot of strong points with the multiplayer. The multiplayer for Bad Company 2 is a big improvement over the last, because with the new and improved engine, they are now able to do things that the first bad company could not do. The new destruction 2.0 will have you blowing up every single house for those nasty campers, also with the ground being blow up; the terrain can be bumpy and cause a lot of frustration when driving a tank or car. Well, the new destruction 2.0 really didn’t add much but, is still an improvement and there is still more to talk about the multiplayer. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will ship with 3 modes, Conquest, Rush, and Squad Death match. Each mode will have a different objective and will take teamwork to get every objective done. In conquest two teams will fight it over the control of flags or control points and the more you get, the closer you will be to spawn near the battle and decrease the enemy ticker counter. Rush is a improvement over the gold rush game mode in bad company, and will more or less have  you pay close attention to both target when defending, and when attacking two targets need to be destroy before you ticket counter goes do to zero. Squad Death Match is plain and simple, squad death match which puts you and 3 others against 3 other teams of 4 manned squads (Simple right?) Each of these game modes can be played on multiple maps, and soon DLC will add more maps and game modes later to date to improve and enhance your style of game play.  Finally, the classes of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and overall game play from leveling and unlocks to the ground floor. In Battlefield: Bad Company there were 5 classes each with their own special item to help on the battlefield, now in Bad Company 2 there are 4, and they are  Assault, Engineer, Recon, and Medic. Each play a major part in any Battlefield game but, in this one they are needed more than ever.  The Assault carries an assault rifle and M203 rounds and can resupply their team, when the Engineer carries a SMG along with a drill and rocket /or mines to fix and destroy targets.  The Recon is a simple sniper classes with the ability to planet C4 and call in mortar, and finally comes the Medic with a machine gun, medic kits and defibrillators to revive fallen comrades. When you work as each class, you can unlock more weapons to use, gadgets to play around with and perks to help you increase your player. Along with your class unlocks and leveling is your rank which will unlock more weapons and perks when you level up from private to commander. (Don’t know the full rank list…yet)

Overall, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will have you playing for hours on the multiplayer side of it but, the single player will not hold you over. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will make you break away from the Modern Warfare Craze but, how long will that last, with more DLC coming to Battlefield: Bad Company 2, I think we will see this game for a long times or till they make a Bad Company 3.

Pros: Improved Multiplayer, Classes, Game modes, and overall game play

Cons: Story is not that great, some bugs in the game
